LifeShare Blood Centers and KTBS-3 are holding their annual MASH BASH blood donation drive this week.

The goal is 900 blood donations during the two-day period to help with the currently-low blood supply. LifeShare spokeswoman Tina Hooper told KEEL News donations typically fall off during the summer months, and there are a couple of reasons for that.

"One is that our high school students in the area provide over 25% of our blood supply through their high school drives," Hooper said. "They are an amazing, giving group of people, but they're out on summer vacation right now. So we don't have any high school drives. And then on top of that, people start getting busy going on vacation."

Hooper said that's why LifeShare takes this time of year to make a big push for blood donations. There are certain blood types that are most-needed.

"We have had a lower supply of the O-negative and A-negative, and also, surprisingly, because so much of the population is A-positive, we have a low supply of A-positive right now," she said. "So we're hoping to see a lot of those, but even if someone is not those blood types, we use all blood types every day."

The blood drive is being held July 15 and 16 from 10AM-8PM at the following locations:
