The National Weather Service is expecting the Red River to rise to slightly above flood stage by this weekend.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator, Caddo Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, hosted a meeting this morning for local officials to discuss current river levels and contingency plans to keep citizens and their property safe.

The Red River in Shreveport is predicted to crest at 31 feet by Sunday. Flood stage is 30 feet. NWS officials say water being released from Broken Bow, Oklahoma, will flow into the Millwood Reservoir, and there is no planned release of water from Millwood at this time. The reservoirs downstream from Millwood also have no plans for significant water releases.

According to the NWS, at 31 feet, Russell Road will be overflowed and closed between Blanchard Highway and I-220 in north Shreveport. Backwater flooding is also expected at Cross Bayou, Twelve Mile Bayou and lower McCain Creek. High water could creep up to near southern Clyde Fant Parkway and near Arthur Ray Teague Parkway.

COHSEP will continue to monitor the situation and, if needed, use the emergency phone notification system to alert residents in areas that could potentially be impacted.

For residents who would still like sandbags, Caddo Correctional Center inmates are filling those. You can pick them up at the Parish Department of Public Works at 1701 Monty Street in Shreveport from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
