Lorde Says She’s Started Writing Music for Her Follow-Up to ‘Pure Heroine’

At last night’s (Jan. 11) Golden Globe Awards, Lorde said that while she has no timeline in mind for the follow-up to her 2013 breakout debut, ‘Pure Heroine,’ she has made headway on new music for her sophomore effort.

“For me, I have to kind of write a project lyrically before I attack it musically,” she said (via NME). “So I’ve written a lot of amazing stuff and I’m just tentatively starting to make it music.”

Hopefully that will tide fans over, as the New Zealand singer doesn’t appear to feel any sense of urgency to follow up her hugely successful debut.

“I have no timeline,” she continued. “I really don’t care.”

Lorde was up for Best Original Song for ‘Yellow Flicker beat,’ her contribution to ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1.’ She was up against the likes of Lana Del Rey, Patti Smith and Sia, but ultimately the award went to John Legend and Common for their song, ‘Glory,’ which appeared in the movie, ‘Selma.’
