Lorde Is Kinda Freaking Us Out With Her Witchy Hands

Lorde's rise to superstardom happened in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Some more open-minded people may even say that her meteoric rise has had an almost supernatural element to it. We're not the sort to jump to wild conclusions with no evidence, but we're beginning to wonder, especially considering her stage presence and persona.

Vocalists often use their hands to emote or to gesture along with parts of whatever songs they're singing. Lorde is certainly no exception, and, in fact, her weird hands are what have us wondering.

If you're not sure what we're talking about, just take a look at this video of her performing her breakout hit 'Royals' live on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show.' She seems to be invoking some ancient deity while hypnotizing the audience.

So far, there hasn't been any overt reference to ties with the occult. But whenever she's touring in the States, we check for strange happenings in the towns she visits.

Any number of weird, seemingly unrelated tales could provide us with some clue as to this so-called teen pop star's true, hidden agenda; frogs and fishes falling from the sky, Bigfoot sightings, mass hysteria and shared hallucinations -- any of these things are known to happen when a supernatural agent comes through an unsuspecting city.

Hand gestures during live performances aren't the only issue fueling our wild claims. Just check out the official video for her song 'Tennis Court.'

And she's not necessarily the only one. New Zealand pop star Kimbra is also known to perform strange maneuvers with her hands while singing. Her image, however, seems more bright and colorful. Perhaps she's Glinda the Good to Lorde's Wicked Witch of the West.

We'd like to imagine that there's a secret war being waged between the pop stars behind the scenes. Check out the video of Kimbra performing a solo rendition of 'Settle Down' to see what we mean.

No story about witchy pop stars would be complete without mentioning the original rock 'n' roll witch, Fleetwood Mac frontlady Stevie Nicks. She even wrote a song about a beguiling witch that you've probably heard a million times on your local classic-rock station.
