Louisiana Film Prize is off to the races in their fifth year.

Another year of Louisiana Film Prize has officially kicked off. This year is something special though as it is their fifth year in the area. In that time, LAFP has brought in more than $3 million in revenue to Northwest Louisiana. It's all due to their number one rule, you must film your short film in Northwest Louisiana.

New this year is a partnership with Natchitoches.

That means that filmmakers can now use the beautiful and historic town of Natchitoches as well as the campus of Northwestern State University, among other resources in the Parish to shoot their short films.

Last night artspace played host to a celebration of that new partnership, as well as a birthday celebration for Louisiana Film Prize, complete with cake, food and tequila. The LAFP crew showed a fabulous teaser trailer for 2016 showcasing the work that has already been done by hundreds of filmmakers in the last four years. A record-breaking 127 filmmakers from across the country registered last year in the hopes of winning $50,000 for their short film. Last year's festival brought in over 1,000 attendees.

Expect both of those numbers to grow this year as the Festival kicks off on September 30.

If you've never experienced Louisiana Film Prize, there truly is no better time to check it out. The $50K prize is the largest cash prize awarded to a short film in the WORLD! And it happens in our own backyard.
