First of all, US News and World Report can get bent.  They just released the "Overall Best States Ranking,"  and it looks like our fair Bayou State didn't do so well.  The yearly ranking takes into account health care, education, economy, opportunity, roads, bridges, internet and other infrastructure, its public safety and the integrity and health of state government.  It's quite the thorough report card, even if it's a bit harsh.

You can check out the full list here, but Louisiana came in dead last.  The ranking is an amalgamation of several scores.  In several categories, we came in close to the very bottom - but when it comes to education we came in dead last.  Behind Alabama, Oklahoma, and Florida.

In my personal experience, the school that my son goes to (W.T. Lewis - Go Bulldogs!) is committed to excellence.  Deacon's teachers are so gung-ho about education, the list must be wrong or I really lucked out.
