Louisiana State Police officials announced the arrest of a man following an investigation that began last year after information was received by the Louisiana Legislative Audior's Office.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Louisiana State Police began investigating 51-year-old Charles K. Abels III of Baton Rouge back in May of 2018.

The Legislative Auditor's and State Police dectives allege that Abels way paid for work that he didn't do.

The State Police press release reads as follows,

 

"Investigators were able to determine that on multiple occasions Abels claimed and was paid for time worked while not in performance of his LTC duties".

Abels is also accused of using his state vehicle for personal use, and getting reimbursed for the gas money.

The man was arrested this morning and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charges:

  • One felony count of malfeasance in office
  • One felony count of payroll fraud
  • Sixty-three felony counts of filing or maintaining false public records

Officials say their case is still under investigation.
