Why do we have laws? I think laws are in place to protect our rights and property and the rights and property of others. They are "rule book" for society. Otherwise we would go back to the laws of nature which would mean survival of the fittest. It would also mean that the weak and the stupid would be culled from the herd. After reading some of the laws on the books in the State of Louisiana, I am convinced the "weak and the stupid" may have been who we elected to put these laws on the books.

    Jail Time For False Promises

If this law was actually enforceable they would have to build a giant fence with razor wire around the capitol building. Louisiana was built on false promises and we still have some of the better practitioners of the art in an elected position today. I understand why we may have passed such a law but this is a lot like putting lipstick on a pig. It still smells pretty bad.

    No Pizza Gifting

This law suggest that it is against the will of society for one person to send another person a pizza via delivery service without the knowledge of the receiver. That's right you can't send a pizza over to a friend's house without that friend knowing about it first. I guess once upon a time there was a rash of gift pizzas and confused recipients. Thank goodness our lawmakers were there to save us from ourselves.

Biting With Real Teeth Vs Dentures

This law brings about a whole new reason to say "huh?" It seems that the biting of an individual by an individual who has his natural teeth is considered a violation of the law known as "simple assault". If the person doing the biting is a denture wearer that crime is now "aggravated assault". There is no mention of what the crime would be if you took your dentures out and threw them at someone.

    No Smoking On Parade Floats

This law is specific to New Orleans and the title is a bit misleading.

There must be a No Smoking sign on all Mardi Gras Parade floats. I don't know who would enforce that policy but the law says you have to have a sign. I understand the reasoning but revelers actually following that instruction are probably few and far between.

    Alligators And Fire Hydrants

This law seems odd from the get go. It's one of those laws where you think it must have happened at least once so they had to make law to keep it from happening again. The law states that you may not tie an alligator to a fire hydrant. I am sure fire fighters don't want anything tied to a fire hydrant, but an alligator especially.
