It's been a crazy couple of days for the LSU Tigers football program. However, it looks like the saga will end today when interim coach Ed Orgeron will be named head coach at a noon press conference.

Rumors begin swirling over the last 48 hours about LSU top brass targeting Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and Houston's Tom Herman over Orgeron. There were even reports during Thursday's game against Texas A&M that the Tigers would name Herman head coach by Saturday.

In the end, it appears that LSU administrators didn't want to play around anymore.

A source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy that LSU decided to go with Orgeron because it "wasn't going to be held hostage [while Herman negotiated with others]...In the end, they chose the guy who wanted the job and not the guy who wanted the money."

According to another source close to the Tiger program, LSU was upset after Tom Herman's agent leaked info to ESPN regarding the University of Houston's potential agreement with the Tigers. Those sources also say Herman wanted about $6 million a year, likely not nearly what Orgeron will be getting.

Orgeron did go 5-2 as Les Miles' replacement this year with his only losses to Alabama and Florida.

If these reports are true, this will be Ed Orgeron's second head coaching job, as he went 10-25 over three seasons at Ole Miss. He also served as interim head coach at USC back in 2013.
