*PRESS RELEASE*

Natchitoches, LA - The Red River Waterway Commission has reopened the majority of public boat ramps on the Red River now that water levels from this year’s flood are receding.

These include the ramps in Red River, Natchitoches, Grant, Rapides, and Avoyelles Parish. The boat ramps located at the North Caddo/Bossier, Stoner Avenue, and Teague Parkway recreation areas and the Alexandria Levee Park remain closed as those areas sustained heavier damage. Maintenance crews are still working to remove sand and debris from those areas.

The Commission has projected that these areas will re-open by September 3, 2015.

Boaters should use caution when launching into the current and be highly aware of obstacles such as trees and sandbars while navigating the river.
Additional cleaning and repairs on the docks may be necessary to accommodate the launching process. Boaters may experience delays in launching caused by temporary closures of the ramps during these periods. Cooperation from boaters is appreciated during the clean-up efforts.

The Red River Waterway Commission observes defined river stages within its district to determine the status of public boat ramps. For more information and the latest updates on boat ramps, visit the website at www.redriverwaterway.com.
