Thanks to Marvel Comics, Louisiana has it's own Avenger!

OK, so this is honestly just a big money grab. Marvel Comics is launching a new title called U.S.Avengers, which will follow a new national Avengers team that will take up for the fallen S.H.I.E.L.D. organization.

The U.S.Avengers team will consist of members like Squirrel Girl, Red Hulk, and Cannonball. The covers will include other characters like Luke Cage, Captain America (two versions), Iron Man, Black Widow, and X-Men's Beast.

Louisiana's cover will feature Spectrum, a hero from New Orleans. Her name is Monica Rambeau, but her charecter has held multiple names in comics. During her original appearance (Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16) in 1982, she was known as Captain Marvel. She was then renamed Photon in 1996, Pulsar in 2005, and was renamed Spectrum in Mighty Avengers (volume 2) #1 in 2013. Between all of her name changes, Monica Rambeau has appeared in over 400 Marvel Comics.

Her powers have changed and evolved throughout her various appearances, mostly revolving around her ability to control and manipulate different forms of energy. Including cosmic rays, X-rays, gamma rays, ultraviolet rays, and more. She can also manipulate her body's form into pure energy. She has the ability to fly, super-strength, and super-speed.

We'll have to wait to see what her new powers and abilities are in the new book. But if you're a comic fan in Louisiana, it's probably worth it to fall for the marketing, and pick up the book. It's not often that the state makes its way onto the cover of a Marvel Comic.

But we all will continue to ask, why Spectrum, and not Gambit?
