Some of Marvel’s most beloved and diverse superheroes are headed to the small-screen. The comics giant is working on a new animated Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors project, featuring fan-favorites like Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Spider-Gwen, and some familiar voices from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

BuzzFeed confirms that Marvel has begun work on the new animated feature-length film, which will first emerge as a series of six, four-minute digital shorts in 2018. Marvel’s content and character development director, Sana Amanat, says the new project aims to “tell stories about characters that we think are the next great heroes of the Marvel Universe,” as “it’s incredibly important that we tell young women and young girls that they have this incredible power within themselves, and that they have heroes out there [who] … they can look up to, especially in these times.”

Kathreen Khavari will voice fan-favorite Muslim superhero Kamala Khan, while Cierra Ramirez will play the Latino-American LGBT character America Chavez. Both New Warriors and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Milana Vayntrub and Chloe Bennet will voice their respective characters of Squirrel Girl and Daisy “Quake” Johnson, joining fellow Agents stars Ming-Na as the villainous Hala and Dove Cameron as Gwen Stacy’s “Ghost Spider.” Additional cast and characters include Tyler Posey as Inferno, Kamil McFadden as Patriot, Kim Raver as Captain Marvel, Booboo Stewart as Exile and vocal artist Dee Bradley Baker as Tippy and Lockjaw.
