The first baby was born this morning in the West Wing, the new home of The Birth Place at CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier.

Her name is Faith, born at 8:04 a.m. and delivered by Dr. Sarah Scotto, OBGYN at The Women's Clinic at Highland. We're told both baby and mom are doing great.

"We are so thrilled that the first baby born in our new West Wing is named Faith," said CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier Chief Executive Officer Isaac Palmer. "As a faith-based hospital, how fitting for our first baby to have a name that represents who we are as a ministry and make this exciting day even more special to us. Faith will forever be a part of our CHRISTUS family, and we look forward to delivering many more babies for years to come!"

According to a CHRISTUS news release, the new labor and delivery unit has 14 rooms that offer mother, baby couplet care that The Birth Place is known for where the mother labors, delivers, recovers and receives postpartum care in one room. This special kind of care also allows for mother and child to receive care from one nurse.

The Birth Place is located on the second floor of the new West Wing at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center. Also housed on the second floor is the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that also moved this week. The NICU has 21 rooms to accommodate high-risk babies and those newborns who may need intensive or critical care.
