Forget summer camp or team sports — if you really want to socialize your child, take a page from Melissa McCarthy's book and encourage him or her shoot the breeze with the local ghosts.

McCarthy, who'll star in a new installment of Ghostbusters due out in July, shared at a Sony presentation at Las Vegas' CinemaCon that she's got a personal stake in specters. In fact, she credits the dead with seeing her through early childhood.

"I grew up on a farm and I didn't have any real friends," she said during a discussion, according to People"I have a very strong belief that people are out there because I was certainly talking to someone in those barns...otherwise I'm just crazy. I really strongly believe in ghosts." Somewhere, Casper weeps silent tears of validation...

McCarthy went on to explain that signing onto the Paul Feig feature was, naturally, a bit of a homecoming, and that she still holds the 1984 and 1989 Ghostbusters origin films close to her heart.

"The originals loom large for me and I love them," she said. "I love an underdog story and I love when these people kind of become the heroes. As a moviegoer it makes us feel that we can do it. I love them."
