The inaugural Memphis Film Prize is in the books!

Louisiana Film Prize has officially expanded. After much brainstorming and planning,  the film festival craze that took Shreveport-Bossier by storm five years ago is now in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis Film Prize took place this past weekend and they have announced their first winner.

McGhee Monteith is the first winner.

McGhee took the top spot for her film "He Could've Gone Pro." Not only did she win $10,000, she is also the first woman filmmaker to win a Film Prize competition. She will bring her film to Louisiana Film Prize festival September 29 through October 1. This means that there will be 21 films to see this year.

With one win under her belt, McGhee is coming to Shreveport-Bossier with confidence.

Be sure to get your tickets to this year's LAFP festival. You'll see downtown Shreveport transformed into a film haven, see 21 films created by people all over the country and shot right here in Northwest Louisiana, and you'll have significant say in who wins the $50,000 grand prize. 50 percent of the vote is decided on by the public, while the other 50 percent come from the esteemed judges.

We'll find out who is competing in this year's festival at the Top 20 Announcement Party on Tuesday, August 16.
