One year after her scandalous duet with Robin Thicke that introduced the rest of the world to "twerking", it's been confirmed by an MTV rep that Miley Cyrus will make an appearance at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night in Los Angeles.

The show is scheduled to open with a performance of "Bang Bang" featuring Jessie J, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande. Taylor Swift is also on the bill along with Beyonce, who will receive the Video Vanguard Award.

Sam Smith is also scheduled to perform "Stay With Me" in his American award show debut.

The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards will be hosted by "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale, and will air Sunday at 8 p.m. (CT)
