Angela Raiola, known to viewers of VH1's Mob Wives, died Thursday after battling cancer. She was 55.

"It is with sad regret that we inform you that at 3:01 a.m. Angelia Raiola peacefully ended her battle with cancer, and was called home," read a statement that was posted on Twitter. "She was surrounded by nothing but love from her immediate family, and the closest friends. YOU, (her fans) were some of the most special people in the world, and she loved you immensely. Thank you for your love, prayers, and unconditional support of Angela right to the very end."

Ang was hospitalized in April 2015 to remove a large tumor from her throat. She was told by doctors in October that she was cancer-free, but in December the cancer had returned, spreading to her brain and right lung.

"Big Ang" quickly became one of the standout characters on Mob Wives, earning her two spin-off shows and a cameo appearance in Scary Movie 5.
