Geek'd Con is officially in the books, and man oh man, what a weekend it was.

Anyone who listens to me on the air and/or follows my writing on this website certainly knows I have been excited about Geek'd Con 2019 for quite some time. As the convention crept closer and closer and more guests were announced, my excitement continued to grow into a fever pitch up until those convention doors finally opened.

Once inside, I was like a kid in a candy store, as were the thousands and thousands of others who took part in all that is Geek'd Con this past weekend.

Here are my takeaways!

Geek'd Con Has Established Itself as a Premier Shreveport Event

We're blessed to have several events each year that I will describe as "premier". Events that you simply can't miss. On that list, we have Mudbug Madness, LA Prize Fest, Holiday in Dixie, and maybe one or two more. Now, without question, I have to add Geek'd Con to that list. This is Geek'd Con's 5th year, and this latest installment raised the bar so high, it has to be respected and treated like a true premier event by this city moving forward, because that's exactly what it is.

Many People are Much More Talented than I'll Ever Be.

As if I already didn't know this, Geek'd Con was a nice reminder. I like to consider my self a creative person, but I can't hold a candle to the creativity I witnessed first-hand at Geek'd Con. Major kudos to the thousands of you who showed up in costumes and cosplay. The amount of time and energy you put into your look certainly didn't go unnoticed.

Oscar and Stanley from The Office are Insanely Nice

As a major Office fan, one who has embarrassingly watched the entire series fifteen times, I must say I was a little nervous to meet Oscar Nunez and Leslie D. Baker. Sometimes it's scary meeting people you admire and love because you never truly know how they are in person. After spending a full day with Oscar, and many hours with Leslie, I can say that these two have won me over for life. They were exceptionally nice to my children and me, and we won't be forgetting that any time soon.

    Lori Petty Had... Uh... Fun

Without going into any detail at all, anyone who interacted with Lori at Geek'd Con knows that she was certainly feeling herself, and having a good time.

LeVar Burton Might be a Friend for Life

Over the weekend, I developed a nice relationship with LeVar Burton. He was kind beyond measure, at one point even fixing ME a plate of BBQ. Who does that? During our interview on the radio before the event, I told him my mother, Sandi Sweet, and my two kids, River and Rosie were excited to meet him. Two days later, all I say to him is, "Hey, LeVar, this is my mom" and he screams, "SANDI SWEET, I've been waiting to meet you." The next day, I say to him, "Hey LeVar, these are my daughters" and he shouts, "RIVER AND ROSIE, come over her and talk with me." I cannot possibly tell you how incredible it felt that he took the time to remember their names, and treated them, and myself, so nicely over the weekend.
