The Natchitoches Fire Department and Brookshire's teamed up to deliver 175 boxes of canned food to the Natchitoches Parish Council on Aging.

Thousands of canned goods were donated to the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive by parish schools, Northwestern State University, community groups and private citizens. Brookshire's supplied the boxes for the food drive and served as a collection point for residents to drop off donations. The goods were stored at the Natchitoches Fire Training Center, where they were sorted into boxes.

Brookshire's also donated a certificate for a free hen to go along with each of the boxes of goods, which were distributed just in time for the Christmas holiday.

"This year we were very fortunate to have a partnership with the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center to help sort the food into boxes," said Fire Chief Crit Miller in a news release. "A lot of times, we get emergency calls, so we are not able to sort the boxes. The guys from the Detention Center came in and helped sort, so that we made sure no one received a box of just green beans and that each box had a variety of canned foods included."

Deliveries will also be made to community groups, like the Office of Community Services, CASA of Central Louisiana, Catholic Soup Kitchen and individuals in the community who are in need.
