After weeks of speculation on who would take a seat next to diva-of-all-divas Mariah Carey on the revamped ‘American Idol‘ judges panel, it looks as though reigning rap royalty Nicki Minaj will be joining the show. Whoa. Mariah and Nicki? On one panel? That’s enough diva in one room to make the earth stop spinning on its axis.

UsWeekly claims that two sources on good authority have confirmed that Minaj will board the show for Season 12.

“I’m not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it,” one source said. “A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening.” A second source also said that the ‘Pound the Alarm’ singer, 29, is “100% confirmed to judge ‘American Idol.’”

Some of those “slight things” could involve her Pepsi endorsement. Coke sponsors the show and pumps several million into the show each season. But its rival soft drink sponsors Minaj. That could make things a bit, er, sticky.

Neither Fox reps nor Minaj’s camp would confirm whether or not she has been hired for the prestigious post on one of the biggest shows on TV.

If the news is indeed true and inches away from being announced, ‘Idol’ will get an injection of bold, bright color, and not just from Minaj’s wigs and outfits. Her larger-than-life personality will also set the room aglow. Her career is at its hottest point right now, so it would be the perfect time for her to further extend her fame (and perhaps her longevity) by appearing on the show.

But don’t think for a hot second that Mimi will be taking a secondary role no matter who her co-judges are. She is running the show. We know it. We live it, already, and the season hasn’t even started!

Mimi’s co-judges will have to do the same, including Minaj, who is in her career infancy when compared to Carey.

Do you think that Nicki Minaj is a good choice for an ‘Idol’ judge slot? Will she and Carey butt heads, in their infinite divadom? One thing is for sure. Minaj and her rubbery facial expressions would be a suitable replacement for those of outgoing judge Steven Tyler, along with his crazy quips.
