Roughly three weeks after Fifth Harmony announced their official hiatus, Normani Kordei has opened about their "heartbreaking" split.

The 21-year-old singer — who released her debut solo single, "Love Lies," in February — reflected on breaking the news to fans during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, calling it "the toughest day."

"[It was] very scary, and heartbreaking for me personally," she said, noting that one of the biggest struggles was having to endure it so publicly. "So many people saying, 'Oh my god, what happened? What's wrong?' Just having that attention on something that you already know is real and the fact that now everybody else knows it's real, it's like, 'Wow, this is really happening.'"

Fifth Harmony, who originally formed on The X Factor in 2012, released a statement on March 19 confirming they were taking a break to pursue solo endeavors. It wasn't entirely surprising — speculation had trailed the band since Camila Cabello's departure in late 2016 — but Kordei said it was nonetheless "an adjustment."

Still, Kordei said she was excited for what's to come. She's currently at work on her debut solo album, writing with artists including The Stereotypes, The Monsters and the Strangerz, Sarah Aarons, Sailor Heart, and more.

"It's a discovery for myself, you know? There are so many people that are excited for me, trying to see, 'Oh, what is she gonna do next? 'What does Normani sound like?' I'm still trying to figure that out,'" she told ET. "I feel like, within the group, I'm so, so grateful for the process but I can speak for all of us, you've only been able to see a fraction of who we are individually."
