The music world suffered a great loss when legendary hip hop artist and founding Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch lost his battle with cancer. After an outpouring of support and condolences from artists and fans alike, surviving Beastie Boys Ad-Rock and Mike D have spoken out on the tragic loss of their friend and bandmate.
The Beastie Boys were inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14, the same day that Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch was hospitalized for what would be the last time. Though Yauch couldn’t attend and his bandmates didn’t perform without him, Kid Rock, Travie McCoy and the Roots paid tribute to their musical legacy with a fun medley of the group’s hits.
After almost three years of fighting cancer, Adam Yauch — aka MCA — passed away. He’s deeply missed by his Beastie Boys brethren, with tweets aplenty pouring out from rock stars and fans alike. And now comes an official statement post on the band’s official website, beastieboys.com. Check it out below:
Earlier today (May 4), music fans learned of the tragic news that Beastie Boys co-founder Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch had passed away. In a new lengthy statement, posted below, the cause of death has been confirmed as Yauch’s three year battle with cancer.
With the news that Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boyspassed away today (May 4), the rockers have been tweeting their feelings — and so have the fans. Below is a post of the most telling tweets from Beastie-heads the world over — be on the lookout for more, we’re going to keep them coming. MCA’s heavy bass reached more than one generation of hip-hoppers, punk rockers and everybody else. His growth from egg-throwing goofball to compassionate (and still goofy) activist makes him a folk hero for our time.
The question of whether or not rap belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will probably always remain controversial. However, if you’re of the opinion that the genre is a vital link in the ever-evolving continuum of popular music, then there can be no doubt that the Beastie Boys deserved to be inducted.
It seems like just yesterday that they were urging us to fight for our right to party. Now — as of this morning (Dec. 7), in fact — the Beastie Boys are among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s latest inductees.
Anyone who really knows me, knows I am a Beastie Boy fan. Like an unreasonable fan. They're in my top 3... along with Nine Inch Nails and the Grateful Dead. I know, I know... That's a pretty disperate list, but I'm complicated;)
