UPDATE: The passenger who died in a train-car wreck is identified as 45-year-old Lisa Ferguson of Shreveport.

The Caddo Coroner's Office says an autopsy has been performed on Mrs. Ferguson, but the final results aren't yet available.

ORIGINAL STORY:  A Shreveport woman in a car that tried to beat a train across some railroad tracks in Shreveport yesterday afternoon has died from her injuries.

Police say 44-year-old Shane Ferguson was driving a four-door Toyota sedan northbound along the railroad tracks in the 8800 block of Mansfield Road. He attempted to turn eastbound at the railroad crossing, and drove into the path of an oncoming train.

The engineer has told detectives he sounded the horn, but that it looked like the driver was trying to beat the train across the tracks.

Ferguson, a 45-year-old woman and a 15-year-old were all taken to University Health. Ferguson and the juvenile remain hospitalized and are expected to recover, but the woman died last evening. An autopsy will be conducted.

Police say impairment is not suspected, but charges are pending the results of toxicology tests.
