Paula Abdul Joins ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ As Judge

Paula Abdul is returning to Fox!

The former "American Idol" judge will join "So You Think You Can Dance" when it returns for its upcoming 12th season, replacing Mary Murphy. Singer Jason Derulo will also join fellow judge Nigel Lythgoe and host Cat Deeley.

“I have dedicated a large part of my career as a choreographer to discovering and mentoring some of the most iconic artists and performers from all over the world,” Abdul said in a statement. "'So You Think You Can Dance' has a long-standing history of launching brilliant careers for young choreographers and dancers in the industry. It’s going to be a true honor and pleasure joining this panel with Jason and Nigel, and I’m looking forward to an exciting new season.”

Since leaving "Idol" and her one season as a judge on "The X Factor", Abdul has served as a pinch-hitter on "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance".

Contestant auditions kick off Jan. 24 in New York.
