"Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Teresa Giudice walked into a federal prison facility in Danbury, CT early Monday morning to begin a 15-month sentence for bankruptcy fraud and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

The 42-year-old reality star was driven to the facilities by her lawyer, James L. Leonard, Jr., accompanied by an associate. She is doing her time at Danbury's Federal Correctional Institution, a minimum security prison for women which serves as the inspiration for the hit Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black".

"Mentally and emotionally she was prepared," Leonard said during an interview with "Good Morning America" later that morning. As for her husband, Joe, who himself is scheduled to serve time when Teresa finishes her sentence, he "was somber", added Leonard. "The enormity of this entire situation hit him."

As for a possible shortened sentence, Leonard said that would be "up to the judge and the Bureau of Prisons."

Joe Giudice has been sentenced to 41 months for the fraud charges, along with a concurrent 12 months for failing to file a federal tax form in 204. Since he is not a U.S. citizen, he also faces deportation upon his release.
