Remains found on a sandbar in Red River have been positively identified as 42-year-old Janice Northcross of Ashdown, AR, according to Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator and Coroner Dr. Todd Thoma.

A forensic dentist in Baton Rouge used dental records to make the identification.

Northcross had been missing since early February when she either jumped or fell into the Red River near Fulton to avoid a tractor-trailer that was skidding toward her on an icy bridge.

A single bone was discovered on a sandbar in Caddo Parish on September 5. More bones were found by the Caddo Sheriff’s Office in the days that followed, and on September 11, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office and FACES lab at LSU in Baton Rouge collected an adult female skeleton and transported it to Baton Rouge for further testing. Dental records provided by the Arkansas State Police helped confirm the ID.
