File this one under “not quite.” Rosie O’Donnell took to the air waves to compare trouble movie starlet Lindsay Lohan to fallen music legend Whitney Houston.

The hoopla started when O’Donnell flipped out over Lohan’s casting as screen legend Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming Lifetime movie, ‘Liz & Dick’ (we’ll wait til you’re done snickering). O’Donnell felt that while Lohan is talented, her personal life is too much of a mess for her to tackle such a demanding role. This sent gossip rags, blogs and television shows into a frenzy, so O’Donnell took to ‘The Today Show’ this morning to explain her comments … and dragged Nippy’s name into the mix.

Houston’s official cause of death as “drowning and effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.” When her body was discovered, Houston’s face was underwater, while her legs were up, as if she slid down the back of the bathtub. Initial reports suggested Houston was rendered unconscious from sedatives, then drowned.

It’s no secret that Lohan’s own issues with substance abuse have kept her in the public eye more than her actual work has, but it seems unfair to drag Houston’s memory through the mud considering how much more the legendary vocalist accomplished in her life than Lohan has, doesn’t it?

“I [was] watching Whitney Houston’s funeral, and I remember thinking, ‘Why didn’t more people say what they knew?’ We all knew, when she would not show up to do this show, not show up to do my show, we watched ‘Being Bobby Brown‘ and it was like watching Sid and Nancy, they were people who were in the throes of addiction,” O’Donnell rambled. “But all that anyone cared about was that the show was getting ratings, not that this woman, this talented individual, this human being, this mother, this daughter, was worth saving.”

LiLo isn’t the only young star to be compared to the late Houston. Recently ganja enthusiast Rihanna came under fire from both her own father and from Cissy Houston when her named was attached to a potential biopic about the singer.

While O’Donnell has some valid points, we can’t help but think this may be a ploy to keep her own name in the news — and it’s clearly working.
