While hugging is important and calming for humans it has the opposite effect on our k9 friends! Dogs are cursorial animals, which means they're designed for swift running and to escape possible threats. Hugging or holding a dog will make them feel stressed because it takes away their natural instinct. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior advises never to hug or hold a k9 because it increases the chance of a bite!

Honestly I'm still going to hug my dogs but will remember this for other dogs that are not mine!
