Selena Gomez Had to Learn How to Smoke for ‘Spring Breakers’

Selena Gomez is a good girl going bad! She is shedding her image and embracing her inner badass, if only for her role in the forthcoming film ‘Spring Breakers.’ She is already nabbing a ton of press for the part, even though the film isn’t out until next spring. The latest big reveal? Sel had to learn how to smoke for the role!

Gomez and her ‘Spring Breakers’ castmates are featured in a super sexy spread in the new issue of Interview and she admits she was eager to take the part, since it is so against type and she got to let loose. “I’d never smoked a cigarette before in my entire life,” she said. “It was really funny — they had to show me how to do it.” Spoken like a wholesome, squeaky clean starlet. Plus,smoking is baaaad for your health. Sel’s just doing it for the role.

She is totally refreshed by the thematic change of pace, saying, “I was getting kind of repetitive in terms of the roles I was picking, and I really wanted to do something that was completely different.”

The love of Justin Bieber‘s life continued, “It was a mark thing for me — like, ‘This is what I want to be doing.’ I want to be taking myself seriously as an actress, and this was definitely a stretch.”

We have faith that Selena Gomez stretched her creative muscles and will show us a whole new side of her talent by playing a trouble-seeking co-ed.
