U.S. Senator John Kennedy has written an op-ed piece to the Washington Examiner entitled “Please stop having children you aren’t willing to raise.”

In the piece, Kennedy implores parents that if they are drug users or if the child would be born to a fatherless house, to think twice about bringing lives into the world.

"A kid who does not know the firm hand of a father of the loving hand of a mother is six times more than likely to grow up in poverty, is more likely to commit a crime and is more likely not to finish high school."

Kennedy says too many parents are failing their children these days in Louisiana. He says thousands of children are in the state’ foster care system and those who fail to find a good foster care home end up struggling in life.

"I never did agree with what Hilary Clinton said when she said it takes a village to raise a child.  No it takes a parent to raise a child."

Kennedy says we launch public awareness campaigns to encourage people to recycle their soft drink cans, stop smoking and wear seat belts. He says maybe we need to launch campaigns to encourage people to raise their children.

"It is not fair to the child.  It's happening too much in Louisiana and nobody wants to talk about it."
