It’s the time of the year where you fire up the grill, search for tax-free deals at local clothing stores and, most importantly, get ready to send the kids back to school. Labor Day is nearly a month away, so here’s a rundown of what’s open and what’s closed in Shreveport-Bossier during the holiday.

In Shreveport and the rest of Caddo Parish, there will be a few closures. All government and parish offices will be closed. However, all emergency offices — police, fire departments and hospitals — will remain open. Sportran will not be offering bus service on Labor Day.

In Bossier City, City Hall as well as all public works and utility offices will be closed.

Various shopping centers throughout Shreveport-Bossier will be open for parents looking to send their kids back to school in style with the latest clothing and school supplies.

In Shreveport, you have several choices for shopping. Mall St. Vincent, which has several chain clothing stores such as JCPenney, American Eagle and Dillard’s, will offer great sales for back to school weekend. The same applies for Bossier City’s Pierre Bossier Mall, which has Buckle and many other clothing stores.
