Shreveport firefighters are headed for South Carolina to help with the rescue efforts as Hurricane Florence approaches the east coast of the United States.

Fire Chief Scott Wolverton got a request from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness through an Emergency Management Assistant Compact (EMAC) from the State of South Carolina to the State of Louisiana.

SFD is deploying a13 person team of Swift Water Rescue Technicians and Incident Support Team members. Team members will gather tomorrow morning and leave our area for the coast at noon.
“Shreveport’s Swift Water Rescue Team members will join members of Louisiana Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force for search and rescue missions in Columbia, South Carolina. LA USAR Task Force is made up of teams from New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Monroe. This would be a potential deployment of 8 days, searching for any survivors or flood victims,” said Chief Scott Wolverton.
