It's time to defeat ALS. This year's Walk to Defeat ALS will be held October 18.

The ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi will be holding their annual Walk to Defeat ALS on October 18. The walk will begin at the Louisiana Boardwalk. Check in begins at 9 a.m. with the walk beginning at 10 a.m.

According to ALSA, the walk is "an opportunity to bring hope to people living with ALS, to raise money for a cure, and to come together for something you care about."

ALS, also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease" affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The disease can lead to loss of speech and even complete paralysis.

The event will raise money for the local chapter that will allow them to sustain care services and support research for the upcoming year.
