Mississippian and ‘American Idol’ contestant and Skylar Laine may just be the best singer on whatever side of the Mississippi she resides on. This week the contestants had a plethora of options as they were able to choose any song that had been recorded from 2010 on. Not a surprise Laine picked a country song, ‘Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You,’ by fellow country crooner and ‘Idol’ alum Kellie Pickler.

Mentors Jimmy Iovine and Akon were blown away by the singer’s voice saying that she was “believable” and then calling her “a pro.”

While Laine claimed to be nervous to be the first up, she appeared confident on stage playing her guitar and her rendition of the song was virtually flawless. The fiery brunette finished as strong as she started, hitting some big notes at the end and leaving the crowd cheering loudly.

It would have been a challenge to even find a morsel of criticism in the performance and the judges didn’t even try. Randy Jackson told her it was “crazy hot, and crazy good,” also saying he thought she had been almost picture perfect with the pitch. Jennifer Lopez agreed commenting “That’s not easy. You really nailed it – we felt you right from your soul.” Steven Tyler had an equally positive, not to mention humorous response, stating “I am enamored by the girls this season. The crows may crow but the hens deliver the goods!”

Some may think Laine is a one trick pony for consistently singing country every week, but that’s her wheelhouse and if she delivers that caliber of a performance every week we don’t mind what she sings!
