Storms Possible For Election Day In Louisiana

For the majority of the nation, the election day forecast is pretty good. There will be no widespread areas of snow or severe weather. There will be rain across much of the South including a significant threat of showers and maybe even thunderstorms across Louisiana.

While the prospect of standing outside a polling place in even a slight drizzle doesn't seem too appealing, the fact that it could be raining is a positive. Almost three-quarters of our state is in a drought condition. This would be the first significant rain event for the month of November and in many locations the first significant rain in several weeks.

The 36-hour forecast from the National Weather Service shows that an approaching cold front will be the catalyst for the potential threat of showers and storms. However, the Storms Prediction Center does indicate a marginal threat for thunderstorms during the day on Tuesday.

The forecast for today and Election Day along the I-10 corridor of the state shows a 50% to 60% threat of showers. The better chance of rain should be late in the day Monday, Monday night and much of Tuesday.

The I-20 corridor light rain is expected much of today into tonight with a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms during the day on Tuesday.
