This Christmas Village with ice skating has become quite the Christmas tradition in the Ark-La-Tex.

Returning this year, Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport is putting together a fabulous holiday event for the entire family. It's called Southern Lights 16 and features ice skating and an adorable Christmas Village. This year's event kicks off on Friday, December 2 and runs through Friday, December 23. I know what you're thinking, ice skating in Louisiana?

Yep, it's a Christmas miracle.

Well, sort of. You can ice skate at any point during the year at George's Pond at Hirsch Coliseum. However, Summer Grove offers you the chance to skate outside as they turn their parking lot into a ice rink. And not just any rink, measuring 102' by 52', this baby is huge! In addition to the ice skating tradition, you can also visit the Christmas Village. The church dedicates a portion of their enormous facility to this village offering crafts, bounce houses, Christmas movies and more.

Entrance into the village is free. If you would like to skate, there is a $10 fee and a waiver that must be signed beforehand. Concessions and food trucks will also be available each night. The rink is open Mondays through Wednesdays 5-9 p.m. and Thursdays through Sundays 5-10 p.m.
