I don’t want to alarm anyone, but SNL’s David S. Pumpkins and Alec Baldwin’s Trump both debuted in the same season. I know! Things kind of took a turn after November 8, but Tom Hanks’ delightfully bizarre Halloween character debuted only two weeks prior, and now gets his very own Season 42 sendoff. Meet David S. Well, there’s no telling what politics will look like when SNL resumes this fall, but a season oriented around Trump was bound to send him off in style. So it was, that Saturday’s season finale called back to Kate McKinnon’s moving “Hallelujah” with a cold open paying tribute to the Trump players, including Scarlett Johansson!

SNL had Bobby Moynihan’s exit more or less written on the wall by CBS sitcom Me, Myself & I, but only hours ahead of Season 42’s finale, the sketch comedy series has another gut punch for you. Vanessa Bayer will apparently make Season 42 her last as well.

You know a TV series has captured public interest when SNL drops a parody after only four episodes, but the sketch comedy series’ first crack at The Handmaid’s Tale … could have used more time under his eye. It made sense of SNL to hire Melissa McCarthy for a fifth hosting gig, rather than rely on a weekly Sean Spicer impression. Nonetheless, our first live coast-to-coast SNL show managed to coax McCarthy’s Spicer out for Easter, and with an intriguing twist at that.

SNL is having a banner year with its political sketches, but there’s no overlooking the absence of past favorites Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam. Pharoah in particular says the sketch comedy series had him in an “impression box,” and even had cast members commenting that he was undervalued.

No one was exactly surprised to see Alec Baldwin kicking off the final five SNL episodes of Season 42 as Donald Trump, though the reluctantly recurring star added yet another major media impression. Whether or not American Idol jumped the gun to plot a reboot so soon after its “Farewell Season,” the point may be moot. Reports indicate that neither NBC nor FOX were able to negotiate a deal with the studios behind Idol, likely shelving any revival for the foreseeable future.

Once upon a time, Alec Baldwin taking on the role of SNL’s Donald Trump seemed like an amusing guest spot to take us through the debates. Now, the question remains how long Baldwin will play the beleaguered president, especially as the reigning host claims he never wanted the role in the first place.

As if you hadn’t enough trouble keeping The Handmaiden and The Handmaid’s Tale separate, Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman are adding a new wrinkle. The Parks and Recreation pair will host The Handmade Project, a new NBC reality competition for craft-making.

SNL has one heck of a Season 42 finish ahead, to follow Louis C.K. with Jimmy Fallon, Chris Pine, Melissa McCarthy and The Rock, and live on every coast at that. Of all those names, however, McCarthy might build the most anticipation, as the Sean Spicer impressionist says she’s already squirreling away notes for the next appearance.
