A group of inmates took a huge risk to save the life of a prison guard.

A Texas prison guard is alive today because of the quick thinking of some inmates. According to WFAA in Dallas, a guard in Parker County has slumped over in his chair just outside of a holding cell. He was having a heart attack.

It was then that the inmates sprung into action.

After shouting for help, the prisoners managed to break out of the holding cell to help the officer. They discovered that the guard didn't have a pulse and they began screaming and banging on doors. One inmate even reached for the guard's radio. The noise alerted deputies from the court upstairs.

Of course this was a risk to the prisoners.

It could have easily looked like a mutiny and deputies could have easily come in, guns drawn. However, after a quick assessment, deputies were able to attend to the guard and the inmates returned to their cell.

Without their help, it could have been a long time before the guard was discovered. I think it's safe to say that these inmates saved his life.
