Many of us are suffering from allergies and it feels like the end of the world, but it could be worse.

Allergies are awful. Itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing... they just aren't our cup of tea are they? Honestly, I didn't suffer from allergies until I moved to this area. Now I know what people are talking about when they talk about their symptoms making them want to curl up in the fetal position.

Pollen allergies are more common than other allergies especially in regions with flowers and trees.

These guys love to make us miserable and lucky for us, trees begin producing pollen as early as January in the south. Guess we can blame that glorious warm sunshine we enjoy well before others for that. Aside from the early onslaught of pollen, we also see some of the worst pollen levels in our region.

According to Pollen.com, the pollen level is "a measure of the number of grains of pollen in a cubic meter of air." The higher the number, the more people are affected and experience symptoms. In the springtime, these levels are typically higher than in the fall.

The Ark-La-Tex is currently in the "medium to high" area of pollen count with our pollen count ranging from 7.3 to 9.6. Although it's not the highest (which can get up to 12), it's a far cry from the lowest numbers which fall between 0 and 2.4. Much of the state of Texas and Arkansas are in the high numbers, but our area remains just below that... at least for now.
