When I was a Budweiser girl, I had a saying — "Nobody likes a Bud girl with a Bud gut."

I love my beer, and I love my Jack Daniels even more. But in the months leading up to bikini season, when I do indulge in an adult beverage, I have a little secret: vodka and water.

Yeah, it sounds disgusting. But add a little squirt of your favorite water enhancer and boom: a 64-calorie alcoholic drink that tastes good.

My personal favorite is Ketel One with the Mio cherry with energy enhancer. Then the problem is not calories, but that it goes down like Kool-Aid.

If that doesn't sound like your cup of Bailey's infused coffee, here's some other tips on counting calories at the Sun of a Beach Festival — or any other bar.

1. Avoid fruity, frozen concoctions. A 12-ounce frozen margarita has about 320 calories and it's mostly sugar. If 250 calories wasn't bad enough, most margaritas either come two-for-one or in a supersize glass. One jumbo margarita can be 1,200 calories — that's my entire caloric intake in one day!

2. Go for light beer. Leave the Bud heavy to the frat boys or bikers. Bud Light is 110 calories per 12 ounces. Michelob Ultra is 95. Budweiser Select is just 55. Alcohol contents and taste may vary, but it's still a cold bottle of pale ale.

3. Watch the mixers. Cranberry juice varies in calories from brand to brand, but added with vodka can be 150 to 200 calories. Mixing regular Coca-Cola with that shot of whiskey will add 100 calories to a drink.

If you're really serious about calorie counting, try the MyFitnessPal app. It's free, and its library includes just about any adult beverage in the bar.
