Louisiana has some strange looking bugs. We're hearing all about the problems with mosquitos and the connection to West Nile Virus. But it's tough to spend any time outside in our state without encountering a skeeter. You have to lather yourself up with bug spray containing DEET to keep yourself from becoming skeeter-bait.

During the summer we will also see a few of those ugly black caterpillars that can sting you pretty good. These bugs bring back so many memories of my childhood when we would run around barefoot until it was time for these caterpillars to come out hunting for juicy humans. To me, they are the ugliest bugs out there.

I've even had a few friends who have had a run-in with a brown recluse spider in our community. These spiders can do some serious damage and will require a doctor visit in most cases.

I've seen some pretty nasty skin problems from a bite by this strain of spider. Luckily, I've never been a victim.

But I have learned about a new kind of bug in our area. I'm not sure what it is, but it's cute. I'm gonna need your help to identify this bug, because I have no idea what it is.

This happy looking bug was spotted in the Stonewall area and it's a pretty big bug. It kind of looks like a caterpillar, but I don't see a bug with these beautiful colors stinging any one. I could be wrong.
