According to CNN News, Texas Department of State Health Services announced multiple of ongoing mumps outbreaks. This makes 221 cases of the mumps this year.

Not being familiar with mumps, I found out that it is caused by a virus that spreads through saliva and mucus, and since it is a virus it can not be healed with antibiotics. Bed rest and pain relievers are usually the go-to to wait out the virus.

CNN also reports that, "The CDC recommends that children get two doses of the MMR vaccine. One dose is considered about 78% effective initially (PDF), and two doses are about 88% effective. So even if you are vaccinated, you need to practice primary prevention."
