I really like the pope.  From dumping the expensive pope-mobile, to embracing atheists - Pope Francis has been leading the Catholic Church in a very compassionate and inclusive direction.  He even sold his hog to help build a hostel and a soup kitchen for the poor.  Sure, the church could use money acquired through donations and tithes - that's what it's for, right?  This guy wanted to give up something he really enjoyed to help the needy - that's some serious put-your-money-where-your-mouth-is action in my book.

The pontiff's next suggestion may seem a bit extreme, but hear me out.  Yahoo news reports that he wants you to be weary of the information spewing out of your phone.  Maybe that doesn't seem like a big deal, but think about how much "news" you get from the social media terminal that lives in your pocket (or, hand - let's be honest).  I think we've all gotten used to accepting inaccurate, vague, and sometimes - just plain false reports in the name of convenience and that super-informed feeling we get from knowing we are the first to know.

The the 80-year-old Pope extended this warning to reality shows as well.  Papa Francis says that these things are giving today's youth a false sense of the world around them, and I totally agree.  His suggestion is that we all look up from our phones and look at each other.  We as people are missing out on something more fulfilling than our distractions could ever be - each other.

When you look up for the first time, don't be discouraged - it might be difficult to find another human pair of eyes that aren't glued to a machine.
