Educating kids can be a challenge. If understatements were dollars, I'd be Tony Stark rich.

That's why we have to get Machiavellian-level devious (insert evil laugh here) with our little tykes.  Much like drowning broccoli in barbecue sauce, one must disguise learning as fun.  That's why we all hate Barney so much.  Our kids loved him so much, that they watched that purple beast all the time!  In the process, they learned how to share and be kind.  See? EVIL GENIUS!

Parents around the SBC will be thrilled to know that there is a new ally for this kind of deception in the name of the greater good.  The POP museum located within Sci-Port Discovery Center opens up this Monday at 8 a.m. - just in time for most of our kid's Thanksgiving break (uncanny, supervillian-like timing detected).  The concept is brilliant; let kids pretend to be grown-ups.  Then they can grasp and practice ideas like responsibility, problem solving, and innovation - all in a kid-sized Shreveport-Bossier City.   POP’s exhibits showcase science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) like it is fun.  It's almost too cunning.

This is how I foresee the interaction with my son after I've tricked this knowledge into his head:

Me: "How was it Deacon?"

Deacon: "Soooo much fun Dad!  I got to be a Farmer and we worked to get the produce to the market and then I got to ......"

Me: evil grin "Excellent my Son, excellent."

Kids 8 and under get to play (learn) with all kinds of cool exhibits that work together to form a larger exhibit.  Not only are they pretending to work a real job, they are pretending to work together.  Good job all around people!  If the bad guys from Star Wars would have been able to work together this well, these guys would've been toast.

Entry fee is $7, and its a great way to keep the kiddos busy (learning) over the break.  Plus they will be worn out enough to sleep hard and early.
