Every year since I turned 15, I've had the due date for filing your taxes drilled into my head.  It's April 15th, right?  Not this year my friend.

This year, the 15th is on a Saturday - so that's right out.  Since the 16th is a Sunday, and the IRS no worky on a Sunday - the due date won't be then either.  So, Monday the 17th then.  Nope!  Since Emancipation Day falls on a Sunday this year (the 16th), it will be observed federally on Monday the 18th.  IRS employees will taking the day off, thus giving another day to get your 1040 in.  Get all of the info you need right here.

Not only is this a common occurrence, you can expect an extra few days next year as well.
