Academy Award-winning composer James Horner, who is known for writing the scores for such movies as Titanic, Glory, Avatar and Apollo 13, is missing after a small plane registered in his name crashed in Southern California, his attorney reports.

According to reports, the plane crashed Monday morning in the Los Padres National Forest, 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, killing the pilot and sparking a 1-acre brush fire.

"We haven't heard from James," lawyer Jay Cooper said. "We don't know where he was headed...He flies a lot and is an experienced pilot."

Horner won two Oscars in 1998 for Best Original Dramatic Score for Titanic and Best Original Song (with co-writer Will Jennings) for the film's theme, "My Heart Will Go On".

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
