Don't have a date for Prom? Don't sweat it.

I can definitely speak from experience on this subject. You don't have to have a date for Prom to have a good time. There is such an emphasis on having a date and it being a magical evening with your future husband or wife... blah blah blah.

I never had a date to Prom and I survived.

It wasn't because I wasn't asked. OK, I lied. I was never asked to go to Prom, but I had friends that invited me to go each year. I played Varsity softball freshman year so the team wanted to go as a group. My parents said no. Sophomore year, my brother said he would die if his sister was there. Junior year I served on student body and we put Prom together so of course I went. Senior year, it was just me and a bunch of friends.

I wouldn't change it for the world. And here's why:

    It's Cheaper

Ever looked at the price of a Prom dress and wanted to die?! Yeah, they are SUPER expensive. Then you have shoes, hair, makeup, jewelry, limo, and whatever else will make you feel like Cinderella. Well, we don't all have a fairy godmother, and if you don't have a date, you're more likely to spend less on all of this. I mean, who do you have to impress? Plus, your besties are more likely to chip in on that limo fee.

    No Jealousy

When you take a date to prom, you also have to babysit them. You know what I mean. Hang by them to make sure everyone knows they are taken and when you're dancing you have to keep your head cranked just right to keep an eye on them. But when you ride solo, you are free to dance like you want, with whomever you want for as long as you want. Just watch out for their date to throw a shoe in your direction.

You Can Do Whatever You Want

Not every prom is the most magical place you have ever been. Sometimes after three glasses of punch and two slow songs, you're ready to bounce. If you're riding solo or with your besties... YOU CAN! When you have a date, there's added pressure to stay and make it a romantic evening. I ditched the end of my senior prom to go to In-N-Out burger. Why not? I was hungry.

Your Friends Will Still Be Your Friends After Prom

Go to prom with your best friends and you'll leave stronger than when you came in. Go to prom with a cute boy you just met, you probably will leave and never speak again. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but not everyone marries their high school sweetheart. Not every relationship in high school sticks through graduation. And you don't always want to share those high school relationships with your future spouse. But you can always share about a bomb night out with your girls!

It's the Perfect Last Hurrah Before College

For many, Prom is the last big get together before everyone goes off to college. Not one person from my high school went to the same university I did. Honestly, I haven't seen many of my classmates since graduating. To be honest, I'm so glad I got to have prom to just enjoy everyone's company and not stress about whether or not some boy liked me or not. Plus, it was the last opportunity for us to rub it in the Juniors' faces that they would never be as cool as us.
