I have so many memories of my boys searching for just the right educational toy inside Toy Fair inside Pierremont Mall. Today we get the bad news that this iconic Shreveport business is closing.

Toy Fair has been open for 66 years. The store has been owned and operated by the Baskind family since 1951. But now the family will be turning to other business ventures and the doors to the toy store will be closing.

Toy Fair is set to host a Going Out of Business sale over the coming months so customers can enjoy seeing those red and white striped packages under their Christmas Trees one last time. Julie Baskind Price said “It has been an honor to be a part of this community for so long and our family has loved helping create childhood memories for everyone who has ever walked through our doors. Thank you for letting our family be a part of yours for the last 66 years”

We bought pieces to our wooden train set, puzzles, toys to help with hand-eye coordination, animal books and so much more at Toy Fair.

If my boys both had great weeks at school, we would often stop by Toy Fair to let them pick out a new toy. I had one rule. The toy had to be educational. We got so many memorable toys. One I really loved and recommended to others was a set of soft cloth books you could bring to church in case the little guys got restless. They loved those books so much.

It's sad to see the store close its doors, but after hearing about the struggles of Toys R Us, I wondered about Toy Fair and other stores catering to that same crowd.
