Afeni Shakur Davis, mother of the late rapper Tupac Shakur, has died at the age of 69.

Officials responded to a 911 call reporting a possible cardiac arrest Monday night at her Sausalito, CA home. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died shortly after arrival.

Mrs. Davis was an activist for the Black Panthers as a youth and later struggled with drug addiction, finally getting clean in 1991. She was also the inspiration behind her son Tupac's hit song, "Dear Mama."
