So long, Duke boys...for now.

Cable channel TV Land announced Wednesday that until further notice, it is pulling all reruns of the popular '80s series The Dukes of Hazzard amid controversy over the use of the Confederate Flag displayed on the show's iconic car, the General Lee.

This comes in the wake of several people, including South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, calling for the flag to be removed from the Charleston statehouse, and the murder of nine people in a Charleston church.

Along with Daisy Duke's short shorts, the General Lee, with the Confederate Flag prominently displayed, is the most recognized item on the show. It has been pulled from shelves due to the controversy, and Walmart also announced that its stores would no longer sell the flag.

Apparently, the show's surviving stars disagree with the decision, with Ben Jones, who played Cooter on the long-running series, posting on his Facebook page, "I think all of Hazzard Nation understands that the confederate battle flag is the symbol that represents the indomitable spirit of independence which keeps us 'makin' our way the only way we know how. That flag on top of the General Lee made a statement that the values of the rural south were the values of courage and family and good times."

And Dukes star John Schneider defended the flag, saying, "I take exception to those who say that the flag on the General Lee should always be considered a symbol of racism. Is the flag used as such in other applications? Yes, but certainly not on the Dukes. If the flag was a symbol of racism, then Bo and Luke and Daisy and Uncle Jesse were a pack of wild racists and that could not be further from the truth."
